- Visa
Foreign nationals who are planning to work or study in Academia Sinica are advised to apply for a “Visitor Visa” before arriving Taiwan. Foreign nationals may obtain visitor visas if they hold passports or travel documents valid for more than six months, for purposes of sightseeing, business, family visits, study or training, medical treatment, or other legitimate activities. A “Visitor Visa” is generally valid for three months. The Institute administrator will help with the documents necessary to apply for a “Resident Visa” when the foreigner starts work/study at Academia Sinica. Please note the following government regulation: If a foreigner who entered the ROC with Visitor Visa is subsequently legally employed in the ROC, he/she must change the Visitor Visa to a Resident Visa.

- Climate
Taiwan's climate is subtropical in the north and tropical in the south. The island is surrounded by oceans and the ocean breezes are the reason for Taiwan's humid weather. - International Airport
Most international flights all land in Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (Airport Code: TPE) which is situated 40km (24.8 miles) southwest of Taipei.
- Currency
The New Taiwan Dollar (NT$) is the currency used in Taiwan. Foreign currency exchange is available at banks and international hotels.

- Public phone
Public phone in Taiwan can be operated either by coin or IC. There are 16 zones according to 16 counties and cities in Taiwan. All cross zone calls are long distance calls. International calls can be made with public phone marked “International”. Only IC can be used for international calls.
Note: The discount rate time for long distance and international calls is from 11 pm to 8 am the next day. There are six international public phones in Academic Activity Center, Academic Sinica.
- Transportation From Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to Academia Sinica / NTU
Taxi cab can be hired outside the Arrival Hall. There is a flat rate of NT$ 1200 to Academia Sinica/ NTU. The trip takes about an hour by car/taxi.
Note: Please ignore any solicitations of taxi service inside the Arriving Hall. Do hire one at the official taxi stop.

The ASIAA can arrange a pick-up service for you at your request. The driver will meet you at the Tourist Service Center at Terminal I or Information Desk at Terminal II with a sign bearing your name. The cost of the pick up service is about NT$1200 and the trip takes 60 to 90 mins. You may pay at the ASIAA front office after you arrive.
There are several bus companies in service. The bus terminal locates inside the Arrival Hall (please follow the sign). Luggage is self served. The bus fare ranges from NT$ 120 to 135 depending on the location of the terminal stop in Taipei. Taxi is easily being hired at the bus terminal stop.
Airport buses leave roughly every twenty minutes from 6 a.m. until 1:30 a.m. English flyers are distributed on the ticket counter. Most clerks are able to speak English and Japanese. For more information, please visit transportation provided by the airport:

Recommended Bus Routes to Academia Sinica
The terminal stops of Kuokuang Bus, Freego Bus are close to Academia Sinica. Taxi is easily being hired at the bus terminal stop. The fare is between NT$ 200 to 300 to Academia Sinica. Another option is to take MRT (subway) to the terminal stop of Blue Line, Kunyang, then transfer to bus to Academia Sinica by the bus lines 205, 212, 270, 276, 306, 620, 645, blue 25, S1, S5, and S12.

Recommended Bus Routes to NTU
Take the Evervoyage Air Bus line. Get off at the MRT ChungHsiao ShinSheng Station. Then take bus lines 280, 290, 505, 642 or 643 on Shin Sheng S. Rd, in the direction toward National Taiwan Univ. Get off at the stop of Civil Service Development Institute (Kung Wu Jen Li Fa Chan Chung Hsin). [Map]
