Journal Club

IAA's weekly Journal Club is held every Wednesday from 15:30-16:00.

An expert (faculty member or senior post-doc) discusses a recent article in her/his area of expertise. The article should be less than 6 months old, and should be placed in the context of a couple of other relevant articles in the fields (which may be older). The expert brings along another faculty member or senior post-doc of their choice, as a discussion partner.

The expert addresses at least the following items when reviewing the paper:

  • Give a short background of the research field
  • Discuss why this paper is important for its research field
  • Show how the paper should be read -- where is the relevant information?
  • Discuss the important conclusions drawn by this paper
  • Give an expert opinion on this paper

The total discussion is no longer than 30 minutes, with 10-15 minutes introduction by the expert (interruptions are allowed), followed by 15-20 minutes of free format discussion between the expert, the discussion partner, and the audience.

All research staff at IAA and all visitors are welcome to attend.
