Astronomers Reveal First Image of the Black Hole at the Heart of Our Galaxy
The first image of the supermassive black hole at the center of our Galaxy, Sgr A*. With this image, we are now very sure that this source is a supermassive black hole (in the Nobel Prize in Physics 2020, this source was still expressed as "a supermassive compact object at the centre of our galaxy").
The diameter shows 51.8 ± 2.3 micro-arcsec. Since the distance from Earth is 27,000 light-years away, this black hole mass can be calculated as about 4 million time massive than the mass of the Sun.
