Disc radius as a function of stellar distance
Disc radius as a function of stellar distance
Plot of distance vs. disc radius for a sample of 97 spatially resolved debris discs. The colour of each data point denotes the photospheric temperature of the host star. The size of each data point denotes the fractional width (dR/R) of the disc, assuming it is a Gaussian annulus. The black line denotes the limit at which a disc could be resolved by the Herschel satellite observatory. The small black dots denote discs with fractional widths of 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, and 1.0, respectively.
