Closing Date: July 31, 2020

Introduction

We are now calling for applications for a MoST-funded research assistant (R.A.) position in observational extragalactic astronomy at Academia Sinica Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics (ASIAA). The position is for one year fixed term, and the R.A. will work with Dr. Chian-Chou Chen on ALMA and SCUBA-2 projects to understand the properties of the dusty star-forming galaxies at high redshifts.

Job description

The job will focus on leading the analyses about the properties of molecular lines such as Carbon Monoxide using the newly acquired ALMA data set targeting a complete sample of very bright submillimeter galaxies. The R.A. will also join the newly awarded SCUBA-2 large program AWESOME*, assisting the build-up of a framework for SCUBA-2 data management, streamlining the processes of data acquisition, storage, and reduction. The R.A. will also have the option to write telescope proposals for using cutting-edge facilities such as ALMA and the VLT. The package as a whole has a goal to train out an independent researcher, and the skills acquired during this training, including programming, management, and communication, should help the R.A. seek jobs in either academia or industry after the position.
