Research Interests

My research interests are mainly molecular gas in and around starburst galaxies and active galactic nuclei (AGNs). For the research of starbursts, I observe molecular bubbles and outflows from starburst regions, and study the termination and triggered starburst mechanisms to understand the evolution of starburst phenomena. For the AGN research, I observe molecular gas around the AGNs, and study the relation between the molecular gas and the AGN activities, especially inflows and outflows.

I was also involving in the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) project from the site testing phase. Our atmospheric transmission measurement results using the Fourier Transform Spectrometer (FTS) played an important role for deciding the ALMA construction site. I was a Commissioning Scientist in Chile and involved in the Commissioning and Science Verification (CSV); I mainly worked for verifying the phase stability, and also helped to realize the Cycle 0 Early Science operation. I was invited as the expert visitor for the long baseline test, and made the 16 km baseline observations realized.

I am now the Primary Investigator (P.I.) of the Greenland Telescope (GLT) project. This project is to image black hole shadow with the millimeter/submillimeter very long baseline interferometry (mm/submm VLBI) technique together with the other mm/submm telescopes all over the world. We succeeded to have the first light in December 2017, first fringe in January 2018, and now we are regularly joining the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) 230 GHz and the Global Millimeter VLBI Array (GMVA) 86 GHz VLBI observations.
