GN20, a galaxy found in the distant universe
GN20 is a galaxy found in the distant universe. With the SMA, we are able to detect the emission from dust (contours), which is known to be tracing massive star formation activity. More interestingly, the dust emission comes from a part of the galaxy wher
In addition to nearby galaxies, distant galaxies can be studied using the SMA as well. Since these galaxies dwell at a time when the Universe was relatively young, detailed observations of them would provide important information on the origin and evolution of the Universe.
